Job Description

Company Overview:

Onyx is building a virtual immune system for faster and safer development of precision medicines. Our research generates rich, longitudinal multiomics data anchored in clinical context, enabling us to deeply profile the progression of autoimmune diseases.

At our core, we believe that high-quality biological data is the cornerstone of scientific advancement. As our biorespository and datasets grow, we apply advanced AI to gain unprecedented insight into immune function—illuminating new frontiers in treatment and prevention.

Join us in unraveling the intricacies of biology and ushering life sciences into the AI era. Together, we will tackle immune-related diseases that once seemed intractable —and improve the lives of millions worldwide.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Staff Scientist to establish and operate a cutting-edge multiomics lab. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality, reproducible data from biosample collection through advanced omics assays. Therefore, a critical part of this role will be protocol development, quality control, and potential automation to ensure uniform and reproducible data generation.

At a later point, the ideal candidate will also drive innovation in assay development and lab operations to push the frontier and create proprietary and valuable profiling capabilities. These new capabilities will create significant differentiation and competitiveness for our products and data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and operate a state-of-the-art multiomics lab, focusing on sample collection kit development, biobanking, processing, and data reproducibility.
  • Oversee the development and execution of both standard and novel omics assays.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure lab outputs meet research, product development, and business needs.
  • Innovate and optimize lab workflows to continually drive down lab costs / increase throughput as well as support cutting-edge assay development.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience working in a molecular biology lab with a focus on multiomics
  • Expertise in developing, implementing, and scaling multiomics assays and ensuring high-quality data generation
  • A strong desire to be hands-on in the lab, leading by example, not just managing from afar.
  • Ability to innovate and optimize lab workflows for efficiency and quality

Nice to Have Qualifications:

  • Experience building a biological lab from scratch, including equipment procurement
  • Experience with automation and robotics in lab workflows
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and quality management systems
  • Solid leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and/or managing others
  • Passion for advancing healthcare through high-quality, innovative lab operations

Benefits & Compensation:

  • Competitive salary ($120k - $180k) and meaningful equity. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Professional development opportunities

How we work together:

Why not us? Why not now?

  • Can we do this today? We move fast and work hard because opportunities don’t wait.

By any means necessary

  • Sometimes we need to will things into existence.
