The purpose of this position inherently involves providing excellent medical care to our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners. The Veterinary Assistant represents the mission and values to all clients. Our Veterinary Assistants set the tone for the technical and customer support in the hospital, and are responsible, like all team members, for fostering cohesion and motivation within the practice. All hospital staff are responsible for performing their duties in a way that creates an environment in which: The patient’s needs always come first. Every team member understands that they have the power to do what it takes to create an exceptional customer experience. Contentious issues are dealt with and resolved as they occur when possible, or as soon as is possible. Exceptional teamwork and commitment to shared goals benefits the entire organization. Essential Job Functions include greeting clients and patients, obtaining weight and vital signs, recording electronic medical records, assisting doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision, performing patient restraint, handling medications, scheduling appointments, providing client education, preparing patients for procedures, assisting in anesthesia and monitoring, performing in-hospital treatments, maintaining patient care, assisting in training new staff, and keeping the hospital environment clean. Other duties include backup phone and front desk support. Supervision is provided by veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and hospital management. The role impacts the organization by contributing to productive practice growth and high-quality care standards, fostering a cohesive and motivated technical team, and ensuring employee retention, patient well-being, and customer satisfaction. Preferred qualifications include at least 1 year of veterinary or related animal care experience, excellent communication skills, compassion, professionalism, telephone and computer skills, and a team player attitude. The work environment involves physical activity such as bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods, with frequent direct contact with clients and pets.
